- Libtayo is used for the treatment of certain type of skin cancer called cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) that has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be treated with radiation or surgery. It works by blocking the PD-1 receptor, preventing binding and activation of PD-L1 and PD-L2. This mechanism causes the activation of T-cell medicated immune responses against tumor cells.
How to take this medicine?
- Cemiplimab is given by an infusion into the vein (intravenous or IV) over 30 minutes every 3 weeks.
What are things you need to know before taking this medicine?
- This injection is not recommended for pregnant women as it could harm the unborn baby.
- Do not take any type of vaccinations while you are taking this injection without consulting your doctor.
- Do not breast feed while taking cemiplimab and for at least 4 months after the last dose due to the potential of serious adverse reactions in breastfed infants.
What are the side effects/adverse reactions of this medicines?
- Side effects of Mekinist include increased alkaline phosphatase, acne, stomatitis (mouth sores), high blood pressure, abdominal pain, hemorrhage, paronychia (nail infection), increased Aspartate aminotransferase (AST, diarrhea, hypoalbuminemia (Low albumin), increased alanine aminotransferase (ALT), anemia, lymphedema.
